Da Nang, Salavan Province enhance cooperation
Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Vinh, on Wednesday, led the delegation of municipal officials to visit and extend New Year greetings to the Party Committee, government and people of Salavan Province, Laos, on the occasion of Bunpimay 2025. Secretary and Governor of Salavan Daovong Phonekeo chaired the reception for the Da Nang visitors.

Deputy Secretary Vinh wished the Party Committee, government and people of Salavan Province and the family of Secretary Daovong Phonekeo a healthy and happy New Year. He hoped that the special, great friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos, and between Da Nang and Salavan Province to be forever green and sustainable.
Mr. Vinh informed that, under the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the 2023 - 2027 period between the two localities, in 2023 and 2024, Da Nang welcomed delegations of high-ranking officials from Salavan Province. The city granted scholarships to 37 officials and students from the Laotian province to study at the University of Da Nang, and sent 4 teachers to teach Vietnamese at the Salavan Provincial Vietnamese Language Centre.
The Da Nang Youth Union carried out an international volunteer programme to offer medical checkups, distribute medicine and give gifts to people in Salavan Province with a total value of over VND 300 million. The city launched the project to upgrade the Friendship Primary School of the Association of Vietnamese people in Salavan Province into the Friendship Primary and Junior High School.

In 2025, the city will continue to welcome delegations from Salavan Province to visit and work in Da Nang, and grant scholarships to 30 officials and students from the Laotian locality to study at the University of Da Nang. Moreover, 2 teachers will be sent to teach Vietnamese at the Salavan Provincial Vietnamese Language Centre, and the project to upgrade the Friendship Primary School of the Association of Vietnamese people in Salavan Province into the Friendship Primary and Junior High School will be completed in 2025.

Secretary and Governor Daovong Phonekeo highly appreciated Da Nang for the implementation of cooperation programmes in, and its active and effective support for, Salavan over the past years. He voiced his hope that the two localities will strengthen cooperation for mutual development. On the occasion, Da Nang donated VND 500 million in support of social security activities in the province.

Also on the same day, the city delegation visited the Vietnamese Language Centre and the Association of Vietnamese people in Salavan Province. On behalf of the municipal government, the city officials donated VND 50 million to the Association and VND 120 million to support the payment of salaries for Vietnamese teachers working at the Laos - Viet Nam Friendship School. They also presented gifts to 2 Da Nang teachers there.

On the same morning, the Da Nang delegation attended the groundbreaking ceremony to upgrade the Friendship Primary School of the Association of Vietnamese people in Salavan Province into the Friendship Primary and Junior High School. The project has a total construction and equipment cost of nearly VND 6 billion and it is expected to be completed and put into use in 2025.
