As part of their ongoing working trip to south central provinces of Laos, a delegation of Da Nang’s officials, led by Standing Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Vinh, attended the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday for a project to upgrade the Friendship Primary School of the Association of Vietnamese people in Salavan Province into a primary and junior high school.

In attendance at the ceremony were Consul General of Viet Nam in Pakse Ta Phuong Dung, and Vice Chairman of Salavan Provincial People's Council cum Chairman of the Salavan Province branch of the Laos-Viet Nam Friendship Association Khanxay Latthahau.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi emphasised that Da Nang has coordinated with Salavan Province to carry out cooperation programmes in many fields, especially education and training. Every year, the municipal government grants two scholarships to children of members of the Association of Vietnamese people in Salavan Province to study at the University of Da Nang.

Additionally, the city facilitates about 30 officials and students of Salavan Province to study at the University of Da Nang. The city always pays attention to supporting the construction of training facilities and schools for the province, notably the Da Nang - Salavan FriendshipJunior High School, and the Salavan Vietnamese Language Centre.

Due to the increasing number of Vietnamese and Lao students in Khongsedone District, Salavan Province, Da Nang decided to upgrade the Association's Friendship Primary School into the Friendship Primary and Junior High School, Mrs. Thi noted.

The upgrade of the school aims to meet the growing needs of learners and contributes to improving the quality of teaching and learning for the children of the Association as well as for those in Khongsedone District, Salavan Province, she emphasized.

The Friendship Primary and Junior High School project has a total construction and equipment cost of nearly VND 6 billion. It will feature a 2-storey classroom block including 5 classrooms, 2 offices and restrooms.

The project is expected to be completed and put into use in 2025.
