Combating crime
According to a report from Da Nang’s Department of Police at a meeting yesterday, criminal offences including murders and robberies have been extensive over the past 6 months, with a total of 279 crimes recorded in the city. Of these, the number of social order offences stood at 237. Local police officers investigated 217 cases, arrested 594 suspects, cracked down on 7 criminal gangs, and captured 42 criminals as well as commenced criminal proceedings in 7 cases. They also dealt with 3 cases relating to illegal online football betting, arresting 38 suspects and seizing nearly 150 million VND. Over 1,100 suspects in total were arrested for their involvement in 270 illegal gambling cases.

The Department’s Director, Major General Nguyen Van Son, stressed the need for local police to mobilise more forces to combat all kinds of crime, with a focus on solving serious criminal offences and thefts.
Director Son remarked that special attention would be paid to tightening the management of number of local inhabitants, inspecting local pawnshops, and strengthening the police forces in local wards so that they can deal with issues relating to social order and security.
