International fraudsters get 14 years in prison
The trial of 31-year-old Wong Kar Wai, 24-year-old Ling Seng Koey and 48-year-old Chong Kon Hoi, all from Malaysia, took place in Da Nang on Monday.
According to the indictment by the city’s prosecutors, the 3 offenders used fake debit cards and passports to buy goods at 11 large commercial centres in Da Nang, Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City between July and August 2012. Their frauds amounted to around 326 million VND.

On 4 August 2012, they were arrested by the city’s police at the Indochina Riverside Towers shopping centre whilst they were using fake debit cards and passports to buy goods there.
At their trial, Wai was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison, Koey 5 years, and Hoi 3 years and 6 months for “Using computer, telecommunications networks, Internet or digital devices to appropriate property” under Clause 3, Article 226b of the Vietnamese Penal Code.
