New ID cards to not contain parent names
The Government has issued Decree 106/2013/ND-CP to amend Decree 170/2007/ND-CP, dated November 19, 2007, regulating that new ID cards will be issued without names of the cardholder’s parents.
The move aims to comply with the Civil Code of Viet Nam and the International Convention on the Rights of Children which Viet Nam signed in 1988.
Earlier, the Ministry of Justice admitted to missing that big error in Decree 170/2007.
In addition, the phase “Independence-Freedom-Happiness” will be added below the phase “The Socialist Republic of Viet Nam” in the front of ID cards.
The time of ID card issuance will be reduced to no more than 20 days in mountainous, border and island areas and 15 days in lowland areas.
Decree 106 will take effect on November 2, 2013.
