Over 167 billion VND in aid from non-governmental organisations

During the first 6 months of 2013, Da Nang has successfully sought aid from foreign non-governmental organisations (INGOs), the diplomatic missions in Viet Nam, and foreign-invested enterprises for 85 programmes and projects with a total committed funding of over 167 billion VND.  This is an increase of 83.5% over the same period last year, including the disbursement of more than 76 billion VND in funding as reported by INGOs and agencies.

Some of the typical projects are: the “Area Development Programme” being funded by World Vision International (WVI) from the USA with a total of over 31 billion VND (implemented from 2013 – 2016); the “Programme of Comprehensive and Integrated Support for People with Disabilities in Da Nang” being funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) from the USA through Alternatives Development Inc (DAI) from the USA and Vietnam Assistance for the Handicapped (VNAH) from the USA with a total of 66 billion VND (implemented from 2013 – 2015); the “Support Medical Equipment for the Da Nang Hospital” project being funded by Herz fur Herz - Stiftung fur Leben from Germany with a total of over 24 billion VND (implemented during 2013);  the “Support Medicines and Medical Supplies for the Da Nang Hospital” project being funded by International Medical Outreach (IMO) from the USA with a total of nearly 15 billion VND (implemented during 2013).

As of now there are 141 registered INGOs operating in Da Nang (69 from the USA, 17 from the Asia-Pacific region, and 55 from Europe), including 12 organisations with a project office in Da Nang, and 129 with Da Nang as their principal area of operation.  Among these 141 INGOs, 103 have projects currently being implemented in Da Nang.  In addition, in the first six months of 2013, the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs has advised the Da Nang People’s Committee on the issuance, extension, or amendment of permits for 13 INGOs, and to establish relationships with 5 new organisations from the USA and the Asia-Pacific region.

In the immediate future, the city will continue to strengthen the management and coordination of those INGOs which have relationships with Da Nang.  At the same time, Da Nang will expand the mobilisation of aid for programmes and projects in accordance with the policies and development goals of the city.
