The Da Nang People’s Committee (PC) held a discussion on Wednesday morning about the implementation of a pilot model for urban government in the city.

Many participants agreed that the implementation of this pilot model would meet the aspirations of local residents and the urgency for the city’s future development.

The former municipal PC Chairman, Dr Huynh Nam, said that over recent years the city has grown rapidly.  He added that Da Nang has also seen positive achievements in infrastructure improvement, administrative reform, and the building of e-government.  He remarked that the city was getting ready for the implementation of urban government after 4 years of good preparatory work.

The Deputy Chairman of the city’s War Veterans' Association, Mr Doan Hong Chuong, suggested that the number of wards in the city should be reduced from 56 to 38 in order to simplify the local management system.  He added that the focus should be on continuing to improve the professional skills of local government officials and employees to meet the requirements for urban government.
