Floods cause 31 deaths and 3 injuries in central region

The torrential rain during the recent tropical depression, plus water discharged from hydropower reservoirs, resulted in extensive damage across the central region and highlands.

According to the latest figures, floods have claimed 31 lives in the region, and injured 3.  Two deaths have been reported in Quang Nam Province, 13 in Quang Ngai, 13 in Binh Dinh, one in Kon Tum, one in Gia Lai, and one in Phu Yen.  In addition, several people in Quang Nam and Gia Lai are still missing.  The injuries were reported in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh provinces.

A total of 53 houses have been destroyed and more than 120,000 others have been flooded, but these figures do not yet include Quang Nam Province.  In addition, 1,062 hectares of rice and 691 hectares of vegetables have been affected.  Landslides have also occurred on dozens of roads across the region, and some areas have been isolated by the floodwaters.
