As previously reported, after eating a meal of cooked fish innards on 29 October, 47-year-old Hoang Thanh Chuong from Da Nang’s Thanh Khe District died, but his two sons recovered after hospital treatment.

Mr Chuong’s family is very poor.  His wife died in 2009 due to a fatal disease.  He had 3 sons, but 16-year-old Chi Cuong and 14-year-old Chi Binh were sent to Ngu Hanh Son District’s Charity Centre for Career Guidance and the city’s Village of Hope. 

The city’s authorities and local residents have joined their efforts to hold a funeral service for Mr Chuong, as well as to help his 3 sons overcome their difficulties.

The city’s Association of Charity and Children's Rights Protection gave a coffin and 1 million VND in cash to Mr Chuong’s family, whilst the local Fatherland Front Committee donated 10 million VND. 

In addition, around 300 million VND has been raised from Mr Chuong’s relatives, neighbours and trade union organisations at his sons’ schools.

Now, Binh has returned to the Village of Hope to continue his studies whilst Cuong and 6-year-old Minh are living with their aunt.
