Between January and October, more than 2,000 poor families in Da Nang were given loans worth over 40 billion VND to develop small businesses in order to increase their incomes and improve their living conditions.  In addition, over 5 billion VND was spent on building 168 houses for local poor families.

During the same period, more than 6,600 local households have escaped from poverty, fulfilling over 126% of the year's target.  Over 25,000 local people have been given help to find jobs, representing over 81% of the year's target.

These figures were released at a recent meeting in the city between the Cultural and Social Board of the municipal People's Council and the local Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

Over the past 10 months, the department has introduced several effective measures to lift many households out of poverty.  Most notably, a number of training courses on how to develop production and how to do business have been provided for local poor families.  They have also been given access to loans, power and clean water supplies, healthcare services, and education.
