Youth Unions raise 20 billion VND to help storm and flood victims
Youth Unions in Da Nang and the provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan have together raised over 20 billion VND from generous donors. The money raised has been used to help victims recover from the recent storms and floods in the central region.
So far this year, the unions have organised more than 2,000 contests with the purpose of educating their members about revolutionary traditions.
Additionally during the year, the unions have encouraged their members to become actively involved in upgrading rural areas and building a civilised urban society in their localities, and a total of over 7,000 activities have taken place. In particular, free medical check-ups and medicines have been given to 65,014 poor people at a cost of 4.7 billion VND, and 620 charity houses and villages’ cultural houses have been built.
Also, various voluntary activities have been further promoted, and these have involved thousands of youth union members. Over the period, 2,248 volunteer teams have been set up to help their own local residents, whilst another 876 have been established to help those living in other poor areas.
