After starting their heart surgery for children programme 10 years ago, the Da Nang Association for Supporting Poor and Disadvantaged Women and Children has raised a total of 27.5 billion VND from generous domestic and foreign donors.  The donated money went to fund operations for 588 children with congenital heart complaints from Da Nang, and 62 more from Quang Nam Province.  Any operation costing over 100 million VND was fully funded, and there was part funding for the others.

Thanks to the great support from the city’s professional heart surgeons, along with those from Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, and Hue, many difficult operations have been performed successfully.

This information was announced by the Association on Wednesday morning at a meeting to review the implementation of its heart surgery programme over the past 10 years.

Addressing the event, the Association Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ba Thanh, emphasised the need for the association to create favourable conditions for all local children with congenital heart complaints to enjoy benefits from this programme.

Chairman Thanh said that the beneficiaries who received 100% of the surgery cost were children from poor families, from families who have rendered service to the nation, and those of high-ranking military officers and martyrs.  He also asked the Association to consider the real situation of low-income families who cannot afford to bear the cost of surgery for their children apart from the above-mentioned beneficiaries.
