The trial of 30-year-old Do Xuan Minh from Hai Chau District’s Binh Hien Ward took place in Da Nang last Saturday. 

Minh was sentenced to death for killing his girlfriend, 24-year-old Pham Quynh D from Ngu Hanh Son District’s My An Ward.   In addition, he was required to pay compensation of 175 million VND to his victim’s family.

According to the indictment by the city’s prosecutors, Minh and his girlfriend fell in love in April 2010.  However, they began to have arguments in early January this year.  On the evening of 7 February, Minh had a quarrel with his girlfriend, beat her repeatedly about the head with a steel stick, and strangled her with a rope.  He fled the city but was arrested on 31 May.
