Ho Van Binh

At 8.30pm on Tuesday a young man burst into a rented house on Pham Nhu Suong Street in Da Nang’s Lien Chieu District and overwhelmed a student with a knife with the intent of stealing her laptop.  The student has been named as 23-year-old Do Thi Hong Yen from Quang Nam Province’s Nong Son District.  However, the robber, 23-year-old Ho Van Binh from Quang Nam Province’s Duy Xuyen District, ran away after his victim escaped and shouted for help.

He was chased by 3 on-duty night watchmen.  Then he held 4 other students hostage for a period of over 3 hours.  At 11.45pm on the same day he gave himself up to police and all the hostages were found safe.  

According to his confession, the robber had previously stolen 8 laptops from students across the city.
