People with disabilities get involved in arts and culture
A cultural and arts performance entitled “The Participation of People with Disabilities (PWD) in Arts and Cultural Activities” took place in Da Nang on Tuesday.
The event was part of activities to mark the 31st International Disabled Persons’ Day (3 December), and took “Break Barriers, Open Doors: for an inclusive society and development for all” as its theme.
At the event, local PWD demonstrated their talents on stage in drama, singing, dancing and poetry, with some items composed by themselves. The event also featured a questions and answers drawing contest, and presentations to raise public awareness about the role of PWD in the community.
Also at the event, 12 members of the Da Nang Association of PWD were honoured by the association for their active participation in social activities over the past years.
Addressing the event, the Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, Mr Nguyen Xuan Anh, said that the city’s authorities have implemented numerous policies to significantly improve the spiritual and material life of local PWD over recent years. Special attention has also been paid to changing social perceptions of PWD, thus reducing discrimination against them.
These great efforts have created favourable conditions for local PWD allowing them to integrate into the community, overcome their physical or mental health difficulties, and encourage them to study and work better. In addition, the city has frequently granted allowances to thousands of local PWD.
