The Da Nang Party Committee recently held a meeting to review the performances of local sectors over this year, as well as to discuss effective ways to promote the city’s socio-economic development next year.

Addressing the event, the municipal Party Committee Secretary, Mr Tran Tho, said that despite the economic difficulties, the city has made every effort to reach its key targets.

Most notably, the city has so far this year earned 1.9 billion USD from exports, which is the highest ever recorded in the city.  It has attracted over 3 million tourist arrivals, and the total volume of cargo transported through the Da Nang Port has reached nearly 5 million tonnes.  In addition, the city has fulfilled its 2013 target on tax and fee collection despite businesses and the real estate market facing difficulties.

The city leader remarked that 2014 will be designated the ‘Year for Businesses’ with a focus on taking effective measures to help them to overcome their difficulties.

Top priority will be given to promoting the development of tourism, services, and sightseeing boats on the Han River, as well as to attracting more foreign visitors to the city, especially Russians.  An emphasis will be on increasing the total 2014 investment capital for social development to 27,000 billion VND.

Special attention will also be paid to further accelerating administrative reforms, and dealing with the encroachment onto the pavements around the 29 March Park.  The current focus is on ensuring sufficient supplies of essential goods for local social policy beneficiaries and poor people in order to help them to celebrate the Tet Festival.
