After ending their trip to the northern region, 170 young overseas Vietnamese people from around the world who are attending the Viet Nam Summer Camp 2014 programme arrived in Da Nang on Wednesday.  The participants have gained outstanding academic results and are actively involved in community activities in the country where they are living and studying.  The annual event is organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under Viet Nam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  Between 8 and 27 July, the youngsters are enjoying a wide range of activities in the northern, central and southern regions.

On Wednesday afternoon, they paid a visit to the Museum of Da Nang.  Here they were introduced to many old maps and historical artifacts on display which prove Viet Nam’s legitimate sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, and also show China’s southern-most border as being Hainan Island.

From today until Saturday, the participants will visit other tourist attractions in the city including the Non Nuoc stone carving village and My Khe beach.  They will also take part in a grand memorial requiem at Son Tra District’s Linh Ung Pagoda to commemorate the heroic martyrs who have laid down their lives for the nation.  In addition, the visitors will attend an arts exchange programme at the city’s Eastern Sea Park which highlights the country’s sovereignty over its sea and islands.  They will leave the city for the southern region on 20 July.
