Collection and recycling of milk cartons discussed
A seminar about collecting and recycling milk cartons took place in Da Nang on Tuesday. The event was jointly organised by the Tetra Pak Viet Nam Company in Ho Chi Minh City, the Dong Tien Packing & Paper Company in Binh Duong Province, and the Son Tra District Farmers’ Association.
Currently, about 702 tonnes of domestic waste are produced in the city per day, 52% of which is classified as recyclable. However, the collection and classification of recyclable items, such as milk cartons for example, has yet to be implemented effectively. Meanwhile, 4 billion VND from the city’s budget has been spent on dealing with the local domestic waste every year. For this reason, the collection and recycling of solid waste will help the city to save garbage treatment costs.
The Dong Tien Packing & Paper Company has set up a centre to collect waste milk cartons in Da Nang. In addition, milk cartons discarded from local educational establishments, especially pre-schools, are now being collected. The city is not seeing enough active involvement of local residents and sanitation workers due to them being unaware of the benefits of garbage recycling.
