DA NANG Today
Published: October 23, 2014

Since Wednesday, the Da Nang area and elsewhere along the central coast has had widespread heavy rainfall of between 48mm and 62mm.  In detail, the total rainfall for Da Nang last night was 62mm, for Quang Nam Province’s Cau Lau River 67mm, the province’s Tien Phuoc District 97mm, and Quang Ngai Province’s Ba To District 48mm.

On Wednesday morning, continuous heavy rain caused major flooding along some of Da Nang’s main streets, including Ong Ich Khiem, Hung Vuong, Quang Trung, Nguyen Van Linh and Dong Da streets.  This caused difficulties for local road users, especially those taking their children to school.

With more rain forecast in the days ahead, flooding could become a problem in the central region, according to the Central Radio Station for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

On 23 October, flooding is likely on rivers from Thua Thien-Hue to Quang Ngai provinces at an alarming level 1.  Also, landslides and flash floods might occur in some mountainous areas in the central region.

According to the Da Nang Water Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, there are now 58 flooding danger points in the city.  Specifically, 2 are in Hai Chau District, 9 in Thanh Khe District, 12 in Son Tra District, 8 in Ngu Hanh Son District, 7 in Cam Le District, 16 in Lien Chieu District and 4 in Hoa Vang District.
