Environmental pollution solutions have some effect
According to the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, since the start of this year a total of 67 contaminated vacant land lots on some of the city’s major streets have been cleaned up.
Also, the city’s Water Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company (DWTC) has taken effective measures to deal with the problem of environmental pollution at the Tho Quang fishing wharf and the Da Nang Seafood Services Industrial Park. Their focus has been on spraying chemicals to alleviate the bad smells experienced in these locations. In addition, the operation of all the pumping stations owned by the DWTC has been adjusted effectively during the rainy season to reduce the volume of untreated effluent and garbage being discharged into the sea.

During Tuesday’s meeting, representatives of the Economics and Budget Board of the municipal People’s Council stressed the urgency of putting the Son Tra wastewater treatment plant into operation in 2016. Also, more measures will be taken to dredge thick sludge off the Tho Quang fishing wharf as well as collect garbage from there once a week. In particular, the Khe Can Canal’s drainage system in Thanh Khe District will be upgraded next year.
As for solutions to the severe environmental pollution in the basin of the city’s Phu Loc River, the municipal departments of Natural Resources and the Environment, and Science and Technology will give their suggestions to the city authorities about upgrading the Phu Loc wastewater treatment plant on the build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis.
