On Tuesday afternoon, doctors at the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital sucessfully carried out haemodialysis treatment on 12-year-old Tran Thi Hoa from Quang Nam Province’s Dong Giang District.  She is the first child to receive this type of treatment in the central region and highlands.

One week ago, Hoa was admitted to the hospital in a coma suffering from shortness of breath, severe respiratory distress, and heart failure.  She was put on a ventilator and blood tests were taken.  The test results revealed that she was suffering from multiple organ failure, end-stage renal insufficiency, liver failure, and electrolyte disorders.  For the next 48 hours, the hospital’s doctors filtered Hoa’s blood to deal with her life-threatening condition.

The doctors report that Hoa needs either a kidney transplant or periodic haemodialysis treatment to help her to live longer.  They added that the haemodialysis would need to be carried out twice a week and each treatment will cost 2 million VND and last between 2 and 3 hours.
