During his inspection visit on Tuesday morning to Da Nang’s Phu Loc domestic wastewater treatment plant, the municipal Party Committee Secretary, Mr Tran Tho, commented that the Phu Loc River has been considered one of the city’s hot spots of pollution over recent years.  This has adversely affected the health of the residents nearby as well as the image of an environmentally-friendly tourist city.  He stressed, therefore, the need to completely deal with the problem of environmental pollution in the river basin by late 2015.

Secretary Tho also gave approval to expand the Phu Loc domestic wastewater treatment plant by an additional 1.5ha, as well as to apply new advanced technologies for handling bad odours and enhancing treament capacity.  The work is expected to cost about 200 billion VND, which will all come from the city’s budget.

The city leader asked the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment to submit its detailed plans to the city authorities for consideration before 8 December.  If these plans are approved, the expansion project will be one of the city’s 10 key projects in 2015.
