Da Nang receives 'Excellence in City Transformation' award

In London on 12th June, Da Nang was honoured with the ‘Excellence in City Transformation’ award at the 2015 FT/IFC Transformational Business Awards held by the Financial Times (FT) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).  The Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Planning and Investment, Mr Huynh Van Thanh, represented the city to receive this notable award.

Speaking at the event, the FT’s Deputy Editor and co-chair of the awards judging panel, Mr John Thornhill, remarked that the initiatives nominated for this year’s awards included a number of projects that have the potential for large-scale adoption across the developing world.

The award’s organising board received a total of 191 entries from 167 organisations in 140 countries worldwide.  Da Nang won the award after being shortlisted with 6 other nominees: Agra Nagar Nigam - India, Barcelona - Spain, Monrovia - Liberia, Dakar - Senegal, Durban - South Africa and Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. 

The award aims to recognise those cities that, since 2010, have demonstrated tangible progress towards city-wide, integrated reforms across one or more of the following five parameters: economic growth, urban planning and embellishment, environmental management, social welfare, and governance.
