During his meeting on Thursday with the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment to review its performance over the first half of the year, the Head of the Economics and Budget Board of the municipal People's Council, Mr Mai Duc Loc, stressed the need to improve the Department’s management of local water, soil and mineral resources.

Mr Loc said that the problems at some of the city’s environmental pollution hotspots, including the Tho Quang fishing wharf, the Da Nang Seafood Service and Hoa Khanh industrial parks, and the basin of the Phu Loc River, have yet to be fully resolved.  He urged the Department to institute even stronger measures to deal with the problems.

A representative from the Department suggested that the local authorities should allocate funds for dredging sludge from the Tho Quang fishing wharf.  He added that the focus will be on upgrading the Phu Loc wastewater treatment plant and improving the drainage canal in the Phu Loc river.  These works will start this month and they are scheduled to be completed during the 2015 - 2016 period.
