The project expanded the section from kilometre 947 to kilometre 987 under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract and was finished seven months ahead of schedule.
The expansion, which required an investment of 1.49 trillion VND (69 million USD), was designed following the technical standard scale of a third-grade road with a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour and a 20.5 metre-roadbed including four lanes for motor vehicles and two lanes for other vehicles.
The same day, another section of the 1A Highway stretching 118 kilometres in the central coastal province of Binh Thuan officially opened to traffic to ease congestion on this national key route.
The road’s construction is worth 5.11 trillion VND (237 million USD) funded by government bonds and another BOT project with a total investment of 2.59 trillion VND (120 million USD).
As the backbone of the national transport system, National Highway 1A runs through half of the provinces and cities in the country, linking Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho.
