Sick Indian crew member rescued
After receiving message an SOS from the Container Ship Hanjin California registered in Liberia, at 0.30am on Tuesday, the Viet Nam Maritime Rescue and Coordination Center (Viet Nam MRCC) sent out rescue ship SAR 274 from the Zone II Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Da Nang MRCC), carrying two doctors from the city’s Emergency Centre, to help a foreign sick crew member.
Earlier at 11pm on Monday, while the ship had been on its way from China to Singapore at latitude 16°19’N and longitude 111°01’E, about 160 nautical miles off the Da Nang coast, 58-year-old Indian crew member Chatterjee Tuhindra Nath had suffered from a heart attack.
At 6am on Tuesday, the rescue ship reached the container ship to help the foreign sick crew member, and he was safely brought back to the mainland for further treatment at noon of the same day.
