The launch ceremony for World Environment Day 2015 (5 June), themed “Seven Billion Dreams.  One Planet.  Consume with Care”, took place on Hoang Ke Viem street in Da Nang’s Ngu Hanh Son District yesterday.

Co-organised by the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, the Ngu Hanh Son District People’s Committee and local relevant agencies, the day aims to appeal to local residents to protect the Earth through their practical consumption actions.

After the launch ceremony, around 2,000 local government employees, military officers and men, students, Youth Union members and residents cleaned up vacant land lots on Hoang Ke Viem, Le Quang Dao and Ngo Thi Sy streets.  They also removed illegal advertisements in residential areas on the northern side of the district’s Phan Tu street.

In response to World Environment Day, various other activities are also being organised across the city.  Included are a drawing competition about the environment, sea, islands and climate change; a “A Day without Plastic Bags” campaign at local markets; a bicycle parade; a “Ring the Golden Bell” competition; and campaigns to plant green trees and clean up local beaches, vacant land lots and industrial parks.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment recently announced that 27 organisations, 2 communities and 21 individuals from across the country are to be honoured with the 2015 Viet Nam Environment Awards in recognition of their active involvement in the country’s environmental protection activities in 2013 and 2014.  Amongst the honourees are the Da Nang People’s Committee and the Chairwoman of the municipal Women’s Union, Ms Do Thi Kim Linh.

The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 5 June in Vinh Phuc Province’s Vinh Yen City.
