Da Nang-Hoi An bus route has low passenger numbers
A pilot model of a bus route linking Da Nang with Hoi An was started earlier this year, and the new service was officially put into operation on 29 March.
The buses on the route are equipped with window curtains, seat covers, and air-conditioning to bring a clean feel and cool air to passengers, even in the recent hot weather. In addition, passengers with extremely bulky goods that could disturb the driver and other bus users are not allowed on the bus. Most passengers seem to be very impressed with the friendly attitude and behaviour of the bus crews.

However, although the quality of the service has been improved considerably, the route has seen a significant decrease in the number of bus passengers.
The main reason is thought to be that the buses now only pick up or drop off their passengers at designated bus stops instead of anywhere along the route as before, and there are not enough bus stops along the route.
Some bus stops are at busy locations, such as in front of markets or trading centres, and they are used by many passengers. However, picking up or dropping off passengers at these locations can negatively affect the business activities of traders nearby. In addition, other bus stops are installed in front of local government agencies where many cars are illegally parked and make it very dangerous for passengers to get on the buses in the middle of the road.
Local relevant agencies will take more effective measures in order to deal with the problems and maintain the smooth operation of the model of the Da Nang-Hoi An bus route.
