Nutrition support programme for Cotu children proves effective
Da Nang's Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs yesterday revealed the results of a nutrition support programme for 55 Cotu ethnic minority pre-school children in Ta Lang and Gian Bi villages in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Bac Ward.
The programme had been jointly organised by the department and the Assemblies of God/World Relief (AOGWR) from Australia.
Under the programme, the beneficiaries were given free meals and milk, and their height and weight was measured periodically. In addition, useful information on nutrition has been introduced to local children and to pregnant women. Local women have also been given training on how to cook to ensure sufficient nutrients for their children.
As a result, all of the 55 children participating in the programme gained weight, and the rate of child malnutrition in the two villages has been reduced to 22.5%.
