Over the 2014-2015 academic year, the East Meets West Foundation-funded 'Scholarship Programme to Enhance Literacy and Learning' (SPELL) spent over 11.7 billion VND on helping 2,476 very poor junior and senior high school pupils living in 7 central coastal localities from Quang Binh to Phu Yen provinces. 

Each of the senior pupils received a donation worth 240 USD for the year, with 80 USD for juniors.  The donations included learning tools, tuition costs, school uniforms and bicycles.

In the 2015-2016 academic year, SPELL will give scholarships to 583 regional Year 9 pupils in difficult circumstances.
