Public bathing areas becoming more restricted

Over recent years, Da Nang has seen a boom in luxury seaside resorts and hotels along Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap and Truong Sa streets.  The increasing number has resulted in the narrowing of public bathing areas and the blocking of public walkways to local beaches, especially in Ngu Hanh Son District.

For this reason, the city’s public bathing areas, including Pham Van Dong and My Khe in Son Tra District and Sao Bien in Ngu Hanh Son District, are always crowded with local residents and visitors.

The Chairman of the Khue My Ward People’s Committee in Ngu Hanh Son District, Mr Le Tan Nghia, said that there are no public bathing areas along a 4km-long section of the beach in his ward due to there being 8 luxury holiday resorts there, including the delayed Hon Ngoc A Chau project.

Chairman Nghia said that the district’s authorities have suggested that the municipal authorities should revoke the investment licence of the Hon Ngoc A Chau project to allow public access to the beach.

A resident from Ngu Hanh Son district’s My An Ward said that, since many seaside resorts and hotels were built along Truong Sa street, walkways to the beach from Ho Xuan Huong street have been blocked.  As a result, there are now no public bathing areas for locals from Ngu Hanh Son District, Cam Le District’s Khue Trung and Hoa Tho Dong wards, and Hai Chau District’s Hoa Cuong Bac, Hoa Cuong Nam and Hoa Thuan Dong wards.  The Sao Bien bathing area is the only choice for them.
