Burning incense on fishing boat causes fire
At around 2.45pm on Monday, fishing boat DNa 27064TS caught fire whilst it was anchored in the section of the Han River between the Rong (Dragon) and Tran Thi Ly bridges. The boat’s owner is 35-year-old Phan Ngoc Thanh from Thua Thien Hue Province’s Lang Co Town. Fortunately, there was nobody on board at the time.
After receiving a report from a local resident, the river police from the Office of Fire Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue immediately sent 2 boats to the scene to tackle the blaze.
At the same time, Mr Nguyen Chinh and his son were in a fishing boat anchored nearby and they used portable fire extinguishers to try to control the blaze and then shouted for help.
Thanks to the great efforts by Mr Nguyen Chinh and his son and the firefighters, the blaze was completely extinguished with no serious damage reported.
The incident was caused by burning incense being left unattended on board.
At 9.15am on the same day, a blaze broke out at the family home of 60-year-old Thach Sanh in Son Tra District’s An Hai Tay Ward.
Witnesses said that they had tried to extinguish the fire whilst calling local professional fire-fighters to control the blaze. They had rescued people from inside the house and helped them move some furniture out of the fire. Soon after, 2 fire engines and many firefighters arrived at the scene and the blaze was completely extinguished within 30 minutes. An electrical short circuit on an altar is thought to have been the cause.
