Highs between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius are expected to dehydrate areas of the northern and central regions this week, according to Le Thi Xuan Lan, a Ho Chi Minh City-based weather pundit.

By midweek, rain squalls are forecast to lash several areas in the north, mainly mountainous and coastal regions, where thunderstorms and cyclones are also predicted, she said.

Bright days and wet eves will be the typical weather pattern in the southern region and in the central highlands this week despite the dissipation of southwesterly winds, with overnight haze forecast over the period.

Although southern locales will see an increase in temperatures by midweek, overall temperatures will stay between 25 and 34 degrees Celsius, with an 80-90% chance of moisture over the period, Lan said.

Southwesterly winds are predicted to gain strength again by Sunday, and areas in the south are forecast to be soaked by overnight rains with greater intensity.
