In particular, free vocational training courses have been given to 5 groups of local residents to help them find suitable jobs.  The beneficiaries are from displaced families affected by local projects, drug addicts, prostitutes who have already quit their jobs, juvenile offenders, and dropouts.

In addition, numerous preferential policies have been offered to those who gave great service in the national revolution, including Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.  To date, a monthly allowance of a least 1 million VND is being given to each of 242 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers living across the city.

Furthermore, over 24,200 social policy families have received financial assistance from the city budget to refurbish their damaged houses.

The Department’s Deputy Director Nguyen Hung Hiep remarked that the city has promoted its innovations to ensure the efficiency of social evil prevention, especially drug rehabilitation.

He remarked, “Local families, government agencies, and society should join efforts with the city authorities to reduce the number of drug users in the locality.  Those caught using drugs for the first time will have administrative fines imposed and will be monitored by their own families.  The local community will keep a close watch on those who violate again, for a 3 - 6 month period.  Anyone who continues to violate will be sent to local rehabilitation centres for between 1 and 2 years”.

Mr Hiep said that special attention will be given to managing drug addicts after their rehabilitation in order to help them better integrate into the community and avoid relapses.

Municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho affirmed that the city is giving top priority to ensuring the effective implementation of local social welfare programmes and providing the best care for those who gave great service in the national revolution.

Minister Dung spoke highly of the great efforts made by the Da Nang authorities in ensuring local social welfare.  He highly applauded the city for being a pioneer in effectively implementing support policies for local social beneficiaries.

On the same day, the MoLISA representatives and municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien offered incense and laid wreaths at the 2 September Peace Monument.

They also visited the families of Hero of the People's Armed Forces Le Hai Ly in Hai Chau District’s Hoa Cuong Bac Ward, and Vietnamese Heroic Mother Do Thi Hoe in Hai Chau District’s Hai Chau I Ward.
