The money went to providing regular support and Tet gifts for local AO victims, to building shelters for AO-affected children, and to expanding the detoxification and rehabilitation centre for AO/dioxin victims.
Over the past year, the Association’s charitable activities drew a great deal of attention from the international media, with over 100 articles and reportage films published or screened on international channels. Included were the USA’s Associated Press, Japan’s largest broadcasting organisation NHK, China Central Television, Agence France-Presse, and the British Broadcasting Corporation.
Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh spoke highly of the great efforts made by the Association’s staff members in enhancing the development of their organisation in the current context of global economic difficulties.
The city leader stressed the need for local media agencies to join efforts with the Association to appeal for more donations from foreign organisations to help local AO victims.
The Viet Nam Association of Agent Orange Victims has recently presented campaign medals to 48 local individuals, and given Certificates of Merit to 12 local groups and 8 individuals, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in helping local AO victims.
In addition, the DA NANG Newspaper, along with 10 other groups and 14 individuals, was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee for its active involvement in publicising the Association’s activities.
