One hundred poor patients in the nephrology and cancer departments of the Da Nang General Hospital were moved to tears of happiness when they were given Tet gifts from representatives of the city’s branch of the Bank for Foreign Trade of Viet Nam (Vietcombank).

A male patient from Quang Nam Province’s Dien Ban District said, “The great care given by the bank will help me and the other patients at the hospital to relieve our sadness and give us extra energy to fight against our diseases”.

Also, leaders of the municipal Association of Charity and Children's Rights Protection have donated Tet gifts to patients at the Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital.  The mother of a child patient there said, “My daughter has been suffering from a severe disease, and my husband and I have spent most of our time at the hospital taking care of her.  We are now living in very difficult circumstances.  This is such a meaningful gift”.

Party organisations and authorities in local districts, communes and wards have also given great care to local patients who are staying in hospital throughout Tet.  In addition, numerous charitable organisations, local agencies, businesses, and religious organisations have donated Tet gifts to local patients.

Over many consecutive years, leaders of the Lien Chieu District authorities have visited and presented Tet gifts to patients at the district’s medical centre, and the residents of the district who are receiving medical treatment at the Cancer Hospital.

Many local generous donors have donated money to offer free meals for patients at the city’s Psychiatric Hospital, and the Centre for Nursing Mental People.

The hospital’s Director, Doctor Lam Tu Trung, highlighted the meaning of such activity in helping the families of the patients to save money.

Staff members and volunteers from the municipal Red Cross Association have also presented Tet gifts to patients at the Centre for Nursing Mental People.

A member of the Red Cross Association, Mr Nguyen Van Hoa, said, “My Association and its clubs have raised money to cook ‘banh tet’ (cylindrical glutinous rice cakes) and ‘banh chung’ (square glutinous rice cakes) for disadvantaged people across the city, and for those living at the local social support centres.”

Such Tet gifts and great care from the local relevant agencies and generous donors are embellishments which make Da Nang a more peaceful and liveable city.
