Some local districts have seen a much higher number of dengue fever cases than in previous years. In particular, 266 cases have been recorded in Thanh Khe, 195 in Hai Chau, and 142 in Lien Chieu districts.
So far, a total of 73 hot spots for outbreaks of the disease have been identified in the city, and already all of them have been sprayed with anti-mosquito chemicals.
The Head of the Contagious Disease Management and Bio-Vaccine Division of the municipal Preventive Medicine Centre, Doctor Nguyen Tam Lam, yesterday remarked, “My unit is working closely with the district-level preventive medicine centres to spray anti-mosquito chemicals at 13 newly-detected hotspots”.
Doctor Lam continued, “In an effort to deal with the complicated development of this disease and reduce its occurrence, local residents are encouraged to clear up any grassy or bushy areas near their homes and remove sources of standing water which can become breeding grounds for the mosquitoes”.
