Kind hearted blood donors
Over recent years, Da Nang has boasted more blood donors than any other location in Viet Nam. It now has 18 voluntary blood donation clubs with thousands of members in total.

Last year, a total of 123 blood donation campaigns took place across the city, and in total 39,700 local residents donated blood. In the end, over 35,849 units were collected, surpassing the year’s target by 8%. This volume fully met the local hospitals’ demand for blood to use in emergencies and general treatment.
The Head of the Thanh Khe District Live Blood Bank, 58-year-old Le Huu Thanh, is one of the city’s most active blood donors. He is always willing to give blood if he receives an urgent call from a local hospital, regardless of whether it is during the day or at night.
Over the past 3 decades, he has given blood 37 times to help save the lives of many hospital patients in life-threatening circumstances. In 1987 it was 1-month-old Dinh Van Toan who was suffering from rickets and anaemia, and in 2008 his donation helped 16-year-old Le Thi Ngoc Dung from Quang Ngai Province who was undergoing heart surgery at the Hoan My Hospital.
In 2016, the kind-hearted man received a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Health in recognition of his active involvement in the national blood donation programme.
30-year-old Huynh Van Duoc from the city’s Blood Donation Group No 25 is another typical example. Over the past decade, he has donated his blood 35 times.
Another shining example is Mrs Nguyen Thi Cuc, the Head of the Red Cross Association’s chapter in Son Tra District’s An Hai Tay Ward. Over recent years, Mrs Cuc has actively appealed for her family members and relatives to donate their blood for use in emergency situations. Thanks to her efforts, around 60 units have been collected to help needy patients in local hospitals.
