City leaders visit and present gifts to the elderly

On Monday, to mark the 76th anniversary of Viet Nam Elderly Day (6 June), Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh and municipal People’s Committee (PC) Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien visited 100-year-old Ngo Thi Khoi in Thanh Khe District’s Xuan Ha Ward.

Secretary Anh wished Mrs Khoi good health and longevity, and also praised her family for its traditional fondness for learning.  Many of her children and grandchildren are well-educated and successful, and 3 hold doctorates.

On behalf of the city leaders, Secretary Anh gave Mrs Khoi a 100th Birthday Longevity Certificate and gifts from the municipal PC and Vietnamese President.  He also expressed his belief that her descendants will continue their active involvement in the ‘City of 4 Safe Programmes’ campaign and emulation movements in their residential areas.

During his visit on the same day to single elderly people living at the city’s Centre for Social Protection, Secretary Anh wished them all good health.  He asked the centre’s staff to do their utmost to uphold their responsibilities for caring for the elderly and enhance the quality of their meals.

Also at the centre, the city leader gave Mrs Nguyen Thi Lan a 100th Birthday Longevity Certificate and gifts from the municipal PC and Vietnamese President.   

The centre is now providing care for 170 elderly social policy beneficiaries, including 106 disabled and 35 paralysed people.

Also on Monday, the Head of the Da Nang Party Committee’s Mass Mobilisation Board, Mr Pham Quy, together with some representatives from the municipal Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the local Elderly People’s Association, visited and gave gifts to people living in the city’s care centre for those who gave great service in the national revolution, and the charity shelter of the city’s St Paolo Charity Association.

The centre is now providing care for 60 social policy beneficiaries, whilst the shelter is caring for 27 single elderly people, with the oldest 96 years old.

The group then paid visits to give gifts and 100th Birthday Longevity Certificates to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers Huynh Thi Cho in Ngu Hanh Son District and Pham Thi Hon in Son Tra District.
