Addressing the event, Vice Chairman Tuan affirmed that under the direction of the national government, the Da Nang authorities have asked the local Department of Planning and Investment to carefully re-check all 18 projects planned for the peninsula in order to ensure the sustainable development of the peninsula.
In particular, tourism projects on the peninsula which might have negative impacts on the city’s security and defence will be reduced their number or moved to other suitable areas. In addition, hotel projects will only be allowed to build at a height of 100m above sea level. Meanwhile, eco-tourism projects will be limited at a height between 100m and 200m above sea level.
Based on 9 recent research projects on biodiversity, a spokesperson for the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment remarked that the eastern and north-eastern sides of the peninsula are now home to numerous rare animal and plant species, especially the red-shanked douc langurs. Therefore, all construction projects will be moved out of these areas in order to ensure biodiversity conservation.
The focus will be on stopping any construction projects on special-use forest, and significantly cutting down the number of rooms of accommodation projects on the peninsula.
Also at the meeting, Vice Chairman Tuan highly praised individuals and organisations nationwide for their constructive opinions over recent months. He affirmed that the local authorities would strictly follow the Prime Minister’s instructions on the development strategies for the peninsula.
