Representatives from the Da Nang Green Trees-Park Company recently asked for permission from the municipal Construction Department to close a 200m2 zoo in the 29 March Park in Thanh Khe District.

The main reasons are thought to be that there are severe shortages of wild animals and zoo keepers with good professional skills.  Another reason is that the zoo now faces some difficulties due to its lack of operating costs.  As a result, this venue is becoming increasingly unattractive to visitors.

Currently, only 23 animals of different species are being cared for and protected at the zoo, 12 of which are deer, whilst the remainders are monkeys, pythons, crocodiles, and civets.  It is obvious that the zoo’s cramped and stuffy space makes these animals grow poorly.

The company suggested that the animals which are being held in captivity in the zoo should be sent to other local nature reserves or released back into the wild after the venue closed its doors to the public.
