Exciting atmosphere at traditional boat race

The 2017 Da Nang Open Traditional Boat Race for the VTV8 Cup took place on the Han River last Saturday.

As part of the celebrations for the 72nd National Day (2 September), the annual event aimed to further advertise the friendly and dynamic images of the city to visitors from both home and abroad.

This year’s event saw the participation of around 200 racers in total from 8 male and 8 female teams.

The male teams were Hoa Vang 1, Dong Nghe, Son Tra, Lien Chieu, Hoa Vang 2 and Hai Chau from the city, and Duy Xuyen 1 and Duy Xuyen 2 from Quang Nam Province.  Meanwhile, the participating female teams were from Quang Tri Province's Duy Xuyen District, and the local districts of Ngu Hanh Son, Lien Chieu, Hai Chau, Son Tra, Cam Le and Thanh Khe.

The race route was on the river's sections from in front of the headquarters of the Da Nang People's Council to that of VTV and back, with the men’s teams completing 3 laps, equivalent to 7.5km, and the ladies’ teams completing just 2, equivalent to 5km.

In the female category, Hai Chau won the first prize and the fair play award.  Quang Tri and Ngu Hanh Son finished second and third respectively, whilst a consolation prize went to Cam Le.

As for the male teams, the first prize and the fair play award were given out to Hai Chau.  Hoa Vang 2, Lien Chieu and Dong Nghe took second, third and consolation prizes respectively.
