The Da Nang-based Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre No 2 said the baby named Tran Huu Phuc, from Tam Hiep Commune, had a high fever and vomited blood around 2.30am Wednesday morning.

The baby was taken to the communal health centre, but his health did not improve.

Strong winds, heavy rains and big sea almost isolated the islands from the mainland for several days, and no ship could approach to the islands.

The centre immediately sent a ship with a rescue team after getting an SOS from border guards on the islands.

The vessel took the baby to Da Nang.

The baby is said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Last week, eight sailors, including 4 Indians, were rescued by a ship from the search centre in the sea off the coast of Binh Dinh Province.
