The Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre No 2 said, at 2.00am on Thursday, the boat was fishing when it became flooded with water due to big waves and rough seas.

The centre received an SOS from the boat at about 5.00am, and sent out a rescue ship to the scene in order to help the boat in distress.

Within an hour, rescuers found the crippled vessel and towed it back to the city’s mainland at noon on the same day.

The rescue was the first off the coast of Da Nang so far this year.  Last year, more than 20 fishing boats carrying about 100 fishermen in total were safely rescued from sunken boats or due to sickness.
