On Monday, Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh and some representatives from the Vietnamese Ministry of Health joinly discussed the conduction of an international-level drill to test the healthcare and public health response to any type of disaster.  The event is scheduled to take place in the city in March.

As a part of the Project for Strengthening the ASEAN Regional Capacity on Disaster Health Management (ARCH), the international event will be attended by over 350 representatives in total from ministries of Health in 10 ASEAN member countries.

The event aims to enhance the capacity of coordinating within the ASEAN member countries, and boost the use of their resources  in order to ensure the timely and effective response to widespread natural disasters.

In a hypothetical situation, a powerful storm wreaks havoc across central coast of Viet Nam, causing serious damage to this area.  However, Vietnamese government finds it very hard to cope with the aftermath of the disaster, and the country needs urgent help from the remaining 9 ASEAN member countries.

Vice Chairman Minh remarked that the city has developed detailed plans to ensure the successful conduction of the drill.  The focus will be on arranging accommodation for participants, widely publicising the event in the mass media, and ensuring local security during the event.
