Inspection teams on food hygiene, safety founded

A total of 6 inspection teams has been founded to check food safety and hygiene in 12 cities and provinces nationwide, said the Ministry of Health.

The 12 localities are Hue, Da Nang, Ha Noi, Quang Ninh and Son La, Hoa Binh, HCM City, Binh Duong and Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Lang Son and Cao Bang.

The teams, along with the participation of leaders of municipal/ provincial departments concerned, will check food trading, producing and importing activities of enterprises.

They will also check main markets, supermarkets and plazas.

The inspection will focus on food of which a large volume will be consumed during the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) festival, which will take place in the middle of the next month.  The inspection will last from now until  2 April this year.

Nguyen Thanh Phong, the Director of the Viet Nam Food Administration, said that the inspectors would pay great attention to the food’s origin, food additives and preservation substances.

Food samples would be tested and the results would be announced widely, he said.
