Previously, the local police had smashed a large-scale theft ring involving 7 suspects stealing dozens of motorcycles.

The offenders are 27-year-old Ngo Van Giau and 29-year-old Dang Ngoc Bao, both from Son Tra District’s An Hai Bac Ward, 26-year-old Tran Thanh Tu from the same district’s An Hai Tay Ward, 19-year-old Nguyen Quang Duy from Hai Chau District’s Nam Duong Ward, 21-year-old Le Quoc Cuong from Thanh Khe District’s Thac Gian Ward, and 20-year-old Tran Vinh Duc and 37-year-old Nguyen Hong Nhat, both from Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward.

During their interrogations, Giau and Tu conducted motorcycle thefts across the city, whilst Cuong, Duy and Duc were in charge of refurbishing their stolen vehicles.  In addition, Nhat was responsible for making counterfeit papers, and putting mock number plates on the stolen motorcycles to avoid detection by police when driving.  The stolen vehicles were then either on sale at local pawnshops or directly sold to individuals at market prices.

From October 2017 until their arrests, Nhat and his accomplices had stolen a total of 20 motorcycles across the city.  Of these, 6 are Honda SH, 7 are Air Blade and the remainder are Exciter vehicles.

To date, the police have recovered 18 out of the 20 stolen vehicles, totalling over 700 million VND.
The Son Tra District police have given the offenders temporary detentions to allow further investigation, and will prosecute them for their guilt.
