Many fishing boats in distress at sea due to strong winds
Over recent days, due to the intensified cold front from the northern part of Viet Nam, sea waters off the coast of the central region have seen strong winds and high waves.
According to a report by the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue under the Border Guard Command, a total of 5 fishing boats with 19 with crew members on board have been in distress at sea. The distressed fishermen are from Da Nang, and the provinces of Binh Dinh and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
In detail, one people has been reportedly dead, 2 fishing boats have been damaged and sunk, whilst another one with 3 crewmen have gone missing.
Two of the missing fishermen are 52-year-old Nguyen Dinh Hoanh and his son 29-year-old nguyen Dinh Hoang, both from Da Nang. Their boat was fishing at Thua Thien Hue Province’s Chan May water area, and they lost contact with the mainland since 3am last Friday.
According to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, today (15 January), Da Nang coastal area experienced north-northeast winds at level 5 and sea waves from 0.75 to 1.75m high. Sea waters of the Hoang Sa Archipelago saw scattered showers, north-northeast winds at level 6, sea waves from 2 to 3m high, and rough seas.
