The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) on Tuesday morning predicted that the system would develop as a typhoon with the strongest wind speed of 60-75km per hour near its eye, as it approached the East Sea on Wednesday.
The centre said by 7.00am on Wednesday morning, the typhoon would be 170km to the south-southeast of Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago’s Song Tu Tay Island.
In another development, the centre forecast that inundation would occur in lowland areas in HCM City, Can Tho City and Vinh Long Province due to high tides in the coming days.
Water levels of Cuu Long and Sai Gon rivers are, meanwhile, rapidly rising. It is also expected that the water would reach the maximum levels on Wednesday and Thursday.
