According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, cold weather continues through Saturday with moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds predicted for central localities from Da Nang to Quang Ngai.

This matter is due to the ongoing intensified cold front from the northern part of Viet Nam.

Under the influence of the cold front, the mainland of these affected localities is experiencing northeastern winds of level 3 - 4.

Today (9 January) until Saturday (13 January), Da Nang’s temperatures are hovering at only between 17 and 24 degrees Celsius, and the warmer weather is possible over the subsequent days.

Sea waters off the coast of the central and southern parts are seeing strong winds of level 6 - 7, with squalls of level 9, and rough seas.

In a similar vein, the northern part of the East Sea, including the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago, is also bracing for strong winds of level 7 - 8, with gusts of level 9, and heavy rough seas.

The national weather forecasters also said the intense cold wave is striking northern localities, causing temperatures to plunge to as low as 3 degrees Celsius in the high mountains.

During the cold snap, until Sunday, the lowest temperatures in the Red River Delta is set to continue hovering at around 10 - 12 degrees Celsius while the lowest temperatures in mountainous provinces are dropping to 6 - 9 degrees Celsius.
